The courage to connect… Clown in dementia care course & Samhain Storytelling
For the second year running, The Original Spinners are delighted to be hosting Clown in Dementia Care training and a storytelling evening led by international clown, storyteller and trainer Angela Halvorsen Bogo.
Angela Halvorsen Bogo trained in physical theatre, clown, singing and storytelling before beginning her professional work in 1990. She has been working as a clown and teaching clown based workshops for over 25 years. She is a specialized clown in the delicate art of connecting with people with dementia. She trains other clowns and medical staff in this work. Coming from Norway, this is her third workshop offering training for people interested, in the UK.
Both events take place in a peaceful and unique venue close to the centre of Bristol.
The courage to connect – Clown In Dementia Course
Dates: 13th and 14th of October in Bristol, UK.
Time: 10am – 5pm (both days)
The course is open to people at all stages of the clowning journey, particularly those with interest and experience of working with people with dementia. We will play, move, be still, notice and explore the clown as a means to connect sensitively. The weekend will begin with the discovery of landing in the moment, in the body, developing awareness, curiosity and rapport with others. We will explore key qualities and approaches of presence, physical and vocal play, vulnerability, humility and acceptance to expand your capacities, energy and heart space to meet people with dementia. Expect 2 full days of deep explorative work, engaging numerous transferable skills.
Date: Friday 12th October Time: 7.30pm
Storytelling is the perfect way to enjoy the invitations of autumn by turning inward, gathering around the fire with a warm drink, listening. Through stories, songs and simple ritual we will prepare for Samhain, the Celtic New Year, celebrated traditionally October 31st-November 1st. This festival is full of beauty, mystery and power. Angela will focus on bringing us into connection with its themes of fire and light in the dark, remembering ancestors and loved ones who have passed, the great mystery of death and its teachings about life and letting go. Come and join this intimate gathering. Bring something that represents your ancestors or someone you would like to remember.
